The latest detailed research by the BBC, published on their international news website at 19:39 EEST on Sunday 18th June 2023, indicates that previous reports by the Greek Coastguard were not accurate, and that the ill-fated so-called 'fishing boat' which sank approximately 55 nautical miles from the Greek coastline was in fact 'dead in the water' for some seven hours before it sank. The number of persons aboard is believed to have been in the order of 500 to 750, of whom it is becoming likely that the majority perished.

It is urgently necessary that a holistic, independent and thoroughly objective inquiry is convened without delay, and that any persons or organisations which neglected their responsibilities in this tragic affair are brought to account for any misdeeds, misrepresentations, negligence, recklessness or contraventions of the applicable Laws which may have occurred.

The entire matter of this essentially preventable disaster requires a trustworthy professional investigation to be executed forthwith to prevent further loss of life in this continuing saga of mismanagement, deceit and underperformance by those whose duty it is to address this disgraceful Mediterranean crisis without any further delay.

Well done to the crew of the super yacht that saved many lives.The EU needs to do lots more because of people trafficking. Because of people making money out it. And migrants coming from France to the UK many people will die. Too many corrupt people.

One minute you're a desperate migrant from a shithole country like Libya on an overpacked vessel, desperate to flee…next you are on a dream yacht. No doubt the superyacht confined the poors to one very small part of their ship and probably held them under armed guards. "Don't look at our ridiculous abundance of obscene wealth and luxury…DON'T LOOK AT IT!!!"
