  1. Yo Ben!! What’s up with the pork chops? Is this your Elvis faze? You’re gonna need more ink if the LA hipster is your new look. PS. I love you guys and if that’s the new look I won’t stop watching you.

  2. You’ve worked hard and endured a lot. Well deserving of a new boat to spoil yourselves. Excited to watch the journey. On the other side of the coin, it’ll be a great opportunity for the family to take a break, enjoy visits with loved ones, and for that well needed time to take care of yourselves, Willa and Bodhi.

  3. Disagree with controls and lines in front cockpit. For the same reasons as an open plan house. And even more so with young children at sea. Have a front cockpit as a place to read or relax and access to the foredeck. But to have to leave your family or the dinner or whatever to go tweak a line will be a chore soon enough. Soon anybody aboard will be in the foreward cockpit.

  4. No real opinion here about the aluminum build, because I'm clueless, but the mutton chops are misplaced on someone with the most beautiful dimples I've ever seen.

  5. All cats will be forward cockpit one day. Ok… maybe not LOL… but I think it will be lots more common.

It’s the logical place. I prefer centre cockpit monos too… so much better use of space and safety.

  6. Not sure I like Ben’s new sideburns/mutton-chops. It’s alright to say al-oo-min-um, al-yoo-min-ee-um seems like a mouthful.

  7. I sailed on Elsie, it was a great sailing boat even in light air. Love the forward cockpit. Although I would like a place to sit and stretch my legs out in the forward cockpit while on watch.

Since you are going for shaft drives, make sure to put in thrust bearings, it will allow you'd have different kinds of engine mounts that really cut down on vibration and noise from your engines.

  8. Guys I watched Gone With the Wyns video on their new cat. Worth a look in the light of maintenance friendly design and what Ashleighly said about liveability

  9. That’s utmost importance. The mutton chops look great!😊 It’s interesting that Gone with the Wynns were talking to their boat builder in their most recent episode about the importance of knowing location/accessibility of all systems on their new boat. They also loved the safety line around the perimeter as it is quite high but you could be extra safe with the rogue wave washing over the boat with chest high lifelines, deep coaming plus the redundancy of high lifelines.

  10. Of course there is a ton of other factors but im guessing aluminum's largest sailing drawback over glass and carbon is is weight? im sure there are things like shape, keel type also affects speed and sailing characteristics but how much speed are you realistically giving up for a like for like price? Its still a good sized cat not a monohull.

  11. Magnesium is a common element added to a wide range of alloys because it can add strength without inhibiting the positive characteristics of the base metal. With magnesium in aluminum, the aluminum has added strength, corrosion resistance and good weldability characteristics.

  12. Guys if you have any doubts about Aluminium, I need to ask a question. Why don't they make aircraft out of glass or steel. Some Aircraft even today have wooden framing but never used in commercial airlines.
Pure Ali is never used either. To soft. So it's always a composite. In aircraft they add cadmium to the ali. So armed with that you can find out what it is that makes the material they use a marine grade product. Hope this helps.

  13. Sorry I forgot to mention that the Aircraft product of Aluminium & Cadmium combined is called Alclad. If you think of all the coast line Airports in the world most International are. Then Alclad has to stand up to salt water.
