Only came across your videos a couple of weeks ago and have been binge watching them over the last few days. Really impressed with your skills and optimism. There would originally have been a compass in the round hole. Once which could be read from the cockpit and from inside. That way someone seated inside could see what course the boat is on. Useful for marking up chart. Seeing the log for distance, a clock for time, and a compass for course. All visible from inside.
