Did you see the engine hand cranked to make sure it's not froze up. If this Yanmar doesn't have a compression release, then removing the glow plugs should allow hand cranking the engine.

Re the engine mounts, have you thought about getting them sandblasted to clean and strip them back? Once again, it would be cost of sandblasting by someone else v trying to clean them yourself.

There’s a lot of anxiety when it comes to buying used engines, I bought a rebuilt engine for my 67 Camaro, I was a nervous wreck until the day I fired that engine. It’s a lot of money on the line, and so many things can go wrong, I hope you are both blessed by the engine gods.
