To think only 300 years ago the Royal Navy explored and charted the world's oceans by sail alone, battling hurricanes, cyclones with loss of sails, spars, masts and men, often ships. With days of being becalmed as well, sailors exhausted from rowing and Scurvy towing the ship just to stay in the same place. A CPO (or the equivalent) and a Midshipman standing over them with a cat o' nine tails. They earned that almost a pint of Rum daily.
