I gave up on varnishing wood a long time ago now, and switched to feeding the wood and saturating it with Teak Oil, my last Sailboat, the Best. Value Teak Oil I found in the USA was in WalMart, which had substantial savings over West Marine. Since then, I have totally given up on any Natural Wood on Deck, and definitely none on the Bull to Deck join, side decks etc. Laminate or metal hull to deck join, and everywhere else, white non slip. Or a bit of synthetic wood in the Cockpit just to look nice. Over the years, I have wasted bloody months and a lot of Money on looking after wood Never Again.
