That looks like a good Teflon or Gortex type packing. The biggest tip is to stagger the joins around, 12 o’clock, 3, 6 and 9 also cut the ends on a diagonal like 45 deg so that they overlap and it’s not a butt joint. Nip the gland up, then tighten it down once shi is in the water, you don’t need to live that style of packing.

Lazaret refit. Use a bilge coat and primer. It’s a nice fresh clean new look. I did that to my Westsail and it looked new

316 s/s bolt and 304 so called s/s nuts !! If you had to hammer that packing in its the wrong size ! Do yourselves a favour If you don't know ASK or get it done by someone who knows what they are doing !! If you don't at some point in the future you will be sorry VERY sorry.

If you're going to be throwing away the mast why not chop it up into smaller pieces and then you don't need to rent a crane. Or are you going to fix the old mast and reuse it?

As an ex Dive Instructor, I recommend that you get those Scuba Regulators (you called respirators) get a full service before jumping overboard with them strapped to your back. Also have a full hyrdo test on the tanks done as well, unless they're still in test. Thoroughly check the BCD, especially as all the gear was in a bag thrown amongst other gear in the lazarette!
Great to see it on the hard and work begun, well done.
Maybe you can get a small cart and bring stuff stored under the yacht, back to the apartment, out of all that rain.
