Hey ‘New Kids’, when you are rolling around like that I think a mainsail with a nicely trimmed vang to provide the right mainsail leech/roach tension at the top batten will settle down that rolling your boat tends to have bucket loads of? If you were more adventurous a nicely trimmed spinnaker sailing at a slightly higher angle would calm it down even more. Maybe also consider sailing slightly higher rather than so square downwind. You’ll go faster, have more stability, less rudder movements so better VMG but you’ll need to gybe. Soon you’ll be doing this as you build confidence, knowledge and start to chase weather systems (clouds) downwind. Your sailing is improving so much. Yew!

Very interesting guys. One day i hope to sail oceans as well (dinghys for now) so I am interested in the process and considerations.
I see you are often sailing with just the head sail and rarely with the mainsail. I thought that was not recommended, as the wind would be constantly turning you towards running downwind. Is there a reason you dont use the mainsail? Wouldnt it be better to raise the main and reef when necessary?
