What do you both due career wise?? I'm curious because rebuilding what you have destroyed is going to take some serious craftsmanship and knowledge of the way things are built, weight of everything because you can completely ruin the lovely sailing experience by not knowing what you are doing..

It s probably a good idea to replace the wiring, though what you showed isn’t as scary if you could verify that it was only negative side of DC circuits. In a car, the frame (and any metal body) are tied to the negative terminal of the battery. And all lights use that as a return. Having said that, I would have some concern about total load on the wire you showed.
