The biggest force on the beam you're installing is compression. You could almost hold it in place with a couple long dry wall screws and 2 dobs of thickened epoxy. Beautiful piece of laminated lumber that will handle everything you could ever put against it. Looking good!

Mark I don't think this boat when you have finished it will be safe to cross oceans ok for the med and coastal but its a untried design you have done yourself . But as someone has said lashing the beam to the cross beams can only help. Maybe if you get it signed off by a marine engineer hopefully would prove me wrong.

Hey Mark at one time I used to cut those 6"X8"X 20ft beams into Douglas fir fire wood. lol was a fallen in mill.

Those bolts should be "through-hole" [bolt with nut on opposite end, with washers on both sides]. Those lag bolts will NOT be strong enough!

I do a lot of woodwork. One thing that held your tools out is to put paste wax on the bottom of your tools and it will make it glide better on the wood.

Nice work, next time instead of using dish soap, place a length of masking tape over the wood to provide a smooth surface.
