to bad there's some jacka$$es in the comments, they clearly are not capable themselves of resurrecting something old or damaged that has value in many ways, so want it discarded. not saving old things is what created the disposable life style most live in now.

If you are ever in a situation like that again then use kiddies face paint. It will block almost all of the uv. Not ideal but a solution.

This info is probably of no use to you, but still… I used to work with a coded pipe welder and when he had welds in nearly inaccessible areas where he didn't have the reach, he used to stick weld one stick on the end of another stick to get to them places where other single sticks couldn't reach.

Do not ever do that again, that was very dangerous,as I think you have acknowledged.
The kit you should have had is a monkey mask, but if space is too tight for your head we had to use mirrors to see round the back of the pipe,back in the day when I built oil rigs.
After the lecture my wife and I lo your output and would like to do the same but think we are too old
