Thanks for posting this, very insightful. For me it is also a reminder that boating (or sailing) can be boring; a lot of channels focus on the excitement and novelty of sailing, and not many mention that a lot of the time you are just sitting on the boat at the dock or at anchor. As I prepare for my semi-retirement in the Caribbean, I'll try to make sure that I keep busy, do a bit of work unrelated to sailing, in such a way that I will enjoy that glass of rum comes Friday night.

Well done! You approached a difficult subject with real concern and no judgment. One of the best captains I know becomes another person after that 2nd drink. There is always that 2nd drink. Then every night is like new years eve. I won't sail with him anymore because of it. Many of us have stories of struggle and loss with family and friends who are dealing with substance abuse issues. Thank you for sharing yours and offering perspective. I will look forward to sharing a harbor with you one day. I make a mean ginger/lime iced tea. Cheers.

Very true Tim everyone in the Anchorage says it’s cheaper to drink beer than other things. But very correct the drinking starts afternoon and ends at bedtime nearly daily.

I've been watching your videos for a couple of years , i really appreciate that fact that you seem to care a lot about sailing and people . Im a trucker a have 4 children soo just the idea of buying a sailboat is not in the cards for me because i struggle every dayy just pay my bills . Anyway Tim ,as fellow Canadian ive been clean and sober for more 35years and my life has been nothing gratitude for being sober . If i will the lottery i call you for advice on what boat to buy. I live far away in Poland , I don't have a boat of my own and I will probably never go sailing in the Caribbeans but when I first came across Lady K YouTube channel I immediately fell in love with it. Now I know better why. This guy is such a nice and sensitive dude and deep at the same time that it really speaks to my heart. Plus it is like reading Jack London's stories – the magic of far away lands. Good work Lady K, good work!

I've been pleasantly surprised by the improvements made recently in no or low alcohol beers, if you enjoy the taste of a cold beer but can do without the side-effects I suggest you check out Athletic Brewing's "Run Wild IPA". .05% alcohol, great taste, and only 65 calories per can, what's not to like?
