I’ll throw in my two pence worth on batteries based on my recent experience :
. Trying to charge a dead battery can lead to overheating and fire, so no point in keeping dodgy batteries.
. The batteries should charge independently one from the other, for the battery’s sake and for your peace of mind.
. Lead batteries are good for starting an engine but poor for auxilliary work.
. We ran a pair of gel batteries for 10 years, before one of them died on us, so in our experience that was a good choice.
. Due to supply issues, we are now running a pair of AGM’s which are said to be long-lasting as well.
. Lithium batteries store a lot of power, but present a higher explosion and fire-hazard risk, and these fires resist extinguishing.
. Make sure your charger is set to the correct battery type.
I see you have received several other useful comments, so you should be able to make the right choice for yourselves in NZ.

We really liked this video. It was calming, relaxing and funny. The churchgoers singing, the hoisting of the dingy and the full bowl of food empty in a blink. Well done.
