A really good way to get rid of rust, oil and dirt is to put the metal part in a plastic bucket with a metal plate (they must not touch), fill the bucket with water, add some baking soda and put 12V from a battery charger on it. The negative on the rusted part (on a clean bit) and the positive on the steel plate. After a few hours the rusted part is clean. Try it, it works great !!
