Wow! That is scary. Lucky save. I’m in the process of adding a 200 lpm (KPM Marine) bilge pump to my boat, and fitting in such a way that I can pull it out quickly to assist other boats if ever necessary. It is the one thing that scares me about living on a boat. In my first (incomplete) boat I dropped something heavy down the fwd hatch and it squarely hit a plastic valve which just pinged right off and I had my very own vertical falls inside the boat. This was in Blackwattle Bay in Sydney. I had a neighboring Greek style double ender timber boat that was relying on a bilge pump to keep it afloat. I still remember the beautiful Summer morning when i looked out to see just the coach roof of _______ (something like Okeanos) visible above water. Scary. Starting to get a list of must haves for dinghies. From Another Adventure a tricolor stern light. From Nutshell a bilge alarm. From Nutshell enough floatation so that it won’t sink. From Nutshell an outboard tether line. From our dinghy as kids in Port Moresby painted a bright colour so that it is easy to spot tied behind a Lakatoi or if in the Caribbean behind someone else’s boat (Dad painted ours Pink). There are a lot of considerations with dinghies.

I've always thought towing a dingy when offshore is an accident waiting to happen. With PeaNut being more like a small ship knocking down your speed and acting like a sea anchor not a good idea. To me it has always been an accident waiting to happen. Glad you saved her and the Honda. If you are quick and can get the motor rinsed out with fresh water she will probably survive. Hope that works out. Being a lot behind in the video times you will already know. Good luck.

I wonder how the rope on the dinghy can stand for such a long journey? There must be a lot of wear and tear on the fixing point on both ends? How is it done, so it won't snap. You seem not to worry sailing along just looking forward, presuming the dinghy is behind you all the way?
For such a long stretch I would have taken the dinghy on deck!
Fine video - as always!
Love from Denmark
