Mast Step and Chain Plate Position

The OPEN40 class are built to race across oceans with a single/double handed crew. This class has been decades in development by world class designers and deep ocean sailors. The spec of a 40 foot racer rig could be correctly powered for your 50 foot cruising boat.

An OPEN40 rig polar diagram as a smart starting point for your rig - therefore the placement of mast step and chain plates. The option of copying a production boat "in mast" main is simply not smart and wastes the reason that you do a one off project. You are striving to have the best short-handed 50 footer on the planet.

Another key benefit is to have a small rig which lowers the weight of everything - from mast section to winches the boat becomes easy to sail
