Oh and here’s a quick and completely unnecessary way to convert Celsius to Fahrenheit in your head:
Double the celsius temp, subtract 10%, and then add 32.
4c -> 8 - .8 -> 7.2 + 32 and voila 39.2f . (will get you pretty close and only works for zero and above temps)

Hi. l hope you see this comment even though l am adding it quite late. I've never seen a wooden mast step before and I wouldn't put anything that could rot and go soft under the mast. Check with your Gulfstar 41 buddy to see if he has the same; l can't believe your mast step is factory but…. Florida boatbuilders, you never know! I would fill the hole and have a proper aluminum mast step fabricated from >10 mill plate with an oval on top that is sized to fit INSIDE your mast extrusion. (see all the similar comments that recommend this). The boat will leak at the mast partners and the drips will go down into the bilge if the step is inside the mast. Sorry, but your proposed way is a corrosion nightmare. Also, insulate the step from the mast; l cut a stip from a piece of mylar sailcloth and stick it to the step. I have removed my mast last year after 6 years and it came apart no problem. I would keep the step in place with 3M 5200 or the Sikaflex equivalent and lag bolt it into the keel for extra strength ( you're going to have to do that on the centre line because you would go through the hull if you did it at the corners of the plate). Yes there are different grinder discs for aluminium .expensive and hard to find. They don't clog up like ones made for steel.
Fyi I can't make the French Amazon wish list work from usa!

Maybe Almond color. That use to be a standard gelcoat color in the 1970's & 1980's. In the 1990's it got lighted and was called "Bone".
