Navigating with a searchlight or light bar at night is a pretty good way of spotting total incompetency. There's a vogue for light bars on trailer boats here in New Zealand which is less than ideal. Try navigating amongst reefs or islands with an oncoming vessel using a light bar, its highly dangerous.

"yacht" is a very generous description. I never, ever get on a boat if the captain has any alcohol or drugs whatsoever – that includes me if I am the captain.

Zero time behind bars for inflicting life-altering injuries on others? Was there no room to stay at an inn or hotel? They were on a yacht with sleeping accommodations. What was wrong with overnighting, even if uncomfortable? I hope lawsuits bankrupt him, the environmental assessments be heavy and his time on the water be at an end.
