If you have used untreated timber, you may have to spray it all with an oil-based preservative and insect discourager, such as pentachlorophenol or creosote. That makes it brown or black in colour and it has a smell, which I do not mind–it is a bit like s Stockholm Tar.

I make all my fences using pressure treated timber, which comes up green because of the copper. Unlike your choice of a solid fence, I split the boards using a saw, and make a lattice. Because a lattice on the diagonal sheds water and is much stronger and revisits the wind better, and I screw them together. The gates, if lattice, I glue using polyurethane where the lattice crosses AS WELL as screwing them–so the gates are super-strong. If I need to make the fences wholly vermin or light-proof, I screw galvanised roofing iron over the top of the lattice. This I can paint any colour I like. Not many critters can climb galvanised iron.

hey good work I see that a lot of people are talking about the bottom of your fence touching the ground will rot faster, What I did with my fence is to place the bottom board perpendicular, the end grain is not hitting the ground, but the side of the board is and you can rip the board to match the grade. doing it this way allows you to replace that board when it rots and dose not effect the boards running vertical. I know it my not look as good but I feel you will get many more years out of your fence.
