Regarding the girl wanting to leave. Is she not subject to ships articles for the voyage. In the UK unless released for extraordinary reasons you are contracted for that voyage until you return to UK waters or Brest to Elbe.

Hope they can't beat you with a stick if you're in territorial waters as that country law takes precedent but when you're in international waters they can beat you with the stick because the law of the flaged state takes precedent.

The same rules apply to smaller boats I sailed 39 feet sailboat I sailed across the Atlantic with 2 friends who dropped off in barbados for whom I had to pay the flight home.

is there some registry that lists ships that have been arrested? Some list somewhere that keeps track of all past incidents? Does the yacht management company have any responsibility in cases of fired employees? pay, repatriation, etc?

It shocked me that this young woman you mentioned (who pulled a swifty for a free ticket home) was an Australian.

I had heard, from many yacht crew employers, that Australian crew were highly desired because of their good work ethic and tolerance.

This was many years ago, maybe things have changed?

I hope not.

I know you would not intentionally besmirch Aussie crew, I just felt I must mention their
reputation in case viewers made a negative assumption.
