Good snow and more like it . People don't need a 35 foot for their first boat . Learn how to sail and buy bigger and upgrade that boat
Excellent suggestions, especially the smaller sized to learn on and take home. No slip or mooring fees, keeps the goal of actually getting out there easy. Thanks Tim!
Rosa Lee is a great boat name, but I’m biased! ❤cool little boat
Hey Tim, I've been seeing articles & news casts that talk about it becoming more difficult to find places to "live aboard" your own cruising boat without paying marina prices. But, then again, people like to make drama. What have seen/heard?
Wow,… I might have $10Gs – in my sock drawer – great segment,… I mean it!
That's why they're called B.O.A.T.'s. Bring on another thousand!!😢. But you got to love them. Cx
Love my Westerly Centuar. 26' . Idiot friendly, 6' headroom, 6 berth. Yanmar 29hp engine. Bilge keel. Built like tanks. Just love her.
Yes good idea for content. Price should be about 100k. Find good deal and buyer will come and get it Im sure. Great Video.
Hint if you want to continue as an editor for Practical Sailor: Stop lying when you are boat shopping (your story to the Florida seller). Practical Sailor is reputable and should not want to risk that.
Ok, I have to let you know of another source of super cheap boats: keel boats on lakes. Here in the finger lakes (NY) keel boats in the $1-$4000 range can sometimes be found for next to nothing, or even free because the cost of shipping makes it not worth bothering for buyers. Essentially, it’s an unliquid (illiquid?) market. If the 30 people on that lake shopping that season don’t want it, suddenly the boat has no value. And yet, the owner is facing thousands in slip fees for another season if they don’t get rid of it. My last boat, a Catalina 27, I got for free and sailed it for 2 seasons. Then, I got a sweet Chris Craft Cherokee 32, for… free! My marina had to “crunch” a couple boats last season because they couldn’t get rid of them😢
Tim, congratulations on Practical Sailor. I've been following Lady K for a while now and like you practical advice. I agree that a small trailer sailor is a good step onto bigger cruisers and also agree with you that being crew on club racers is a good addition too. It provides experience in all types of weather. Our Kirby had 5 crew (we could do well with 3) so quite often one of us would be "pimped out" to help on another boat that was short handed. That gave me exposure sailing different boats. Most clubs have a "help wanted" board so to speak.
Consider doing a short video recommending a USCG Approved Safety at Sea Course. Perhaps you can get schools etc to subsidize it. This ensures buyers are better prepared for various eventual emergencies at Sea, one of which could be running around or how to avoid it. People also might think it difficult to capsize say, a 30 footer, but all you need to do is sail with waves at the wrong angle and turn sails wrong and either get rolled or "pitch-poled." These happen all the time to even those who have taken sailing courses.
Another great video Tim! I'm one of your mature dreamer fans, and you are getting me excited about sailing on my next house move. I am heading over to your new site. Thanks again. Marty
Ed B. is smiling in Hotlanta. Great shout out.
I like this video as it can really get us poor folk sailing and having a huge BLAST!
believe it or not, some of your viewers are in Europe 🙂 👋⛵ just saying! Amazing what in on offer form 3 – 4 grand
Thanks again Tim this was an inspirational vid for a non sailor wanting to learn on Oneida Lake
Noooo the first classic Mac on the channel, and it's been messed with by a moron. This is something I ran into constantly when shopping: The more accessible a boat is, the more of them get ruined by people who have no business owning them.
Hey good advice! getting a cheap sailboat for experimenting sounds good I like the $1500 trailerable sloop sailboat for playing with my family.
Lover your videos. Looking forward to the next one.
Don’t you mean that it’s like wanting to make pizza if you’re in Connecticut? Shout out to Frank Pepe.
My 1st sailboat was a Catalina 27 got it for $6500 and for four years I took that thing and learned how to sail out of deep River Connecticut. I took that thing around the outside of Cape Cod Newport Cuttyhunk Block Island, watch hill, Rhode Island Montauk well worth that money
Top notch Tim.
Tim ! I keep telling you I'm to old to start sailing ,ok I've wanted to for over 45 years, it's just to expensive, So this morning I can't sleep and what do I see on FB ? A Free Mirror Sailing Dinghy, ( no trailer) no problem, I have a trailer, I use for my Canoe, ( not on the trailer as the Canoe is waiting for a fiberglass repair, so I drive for an hour, "Canberra" People love to give away, or sell stuff very cheap. So "we" ( wife and grandson) at the man's house, Great little craft, Load it up, thank the man, Have Dinner at a nice restaurant, So home and I'm watching videos how to rig a " "Mirror" looks super hard ! Let you know when we take it to our favourite l lake ( Dam actually) I'll let know how it goes
"turboed" boat is "dangerous". Funny I would think people would have been dieing every weekend for years in races across the country. Sailors have been putting bigger sticks in boats for years with no problems.
