place the end of the rope over the rope
put your hand on top and rotate
you will end up with a loop with the end of the rope passing through it
climbers used that method to tie on for decades

I wouldn't use it like that for climbing though you need to add a stopper knot because the bowline can quite easily loosen up when hanging loose
