– The tiller's heft, though oak, seems far too small and skimpy to me. 3:15 {especially hight coming away from the rudder, but thickness, too)

– I want the metal shackle gripping the tiller to be much longer and wider, and all the metal gear considerably more hefty to match.

Your boat dosen't need to be hit by lightning to cook your radio. To be Honist I'm not sure this is good Marine Radio advice, but it is "standard practice" in the HAM Radio world.
