Correction in video: Location was off the coast of Sicily not Sardinia as said. Map clearly shows Sicily but just wanted to clarify.

  • @tombels7159

Any sailing vessel should be self righting from nock down. Surly that also applies to really huge yachts.

  • @snowgorilla9789

Severly injured passengers = possible dismasting/holing hull
Am a mariner and shipbuilder and STILL just a guess

  • @howdeedoodee6603

Very sad. Sehr traurig. Hoffentlich finden sie noch mehrere. Der Rest möge in Frieden ruhen. RIP

  • @melvinnash7798

She was unable to point her bow into the wind at anchor. I suspect the lines hung up on the keel or rudder and she took the full load of the wind on her port side. Hatches were probably open and it happened reality fast. Water wasn’t very deep and lines can hang up under the hull keeping the ship from turning into the wind.

  • @bxb590

I'm so sorry. I'll say prayers.

  • @JamaicaWhiteMan

How sad. Some obscenely rich people died in their obscenely rich toy. I'm shattered,

  • @ramseybarber8312

So she had a lifting keel now was the keel up or down ? if it was down and locked she would have weathered the storm , But if it was up that is why she capsized .

  • @gglen2141

You'd think a 56 meter yacht would be as safe as you can be on the sea. Man plans. God pulls his butt cheeks apart and does a "talking bums" skit.

  • @Orxenhorf

Don't know if they intended this meaning of the name, but "Bayesian" in statistics is pronounced "bay-zee-en".

  • @rev.valeriehamann4049

There is no such thing as a freak tornado, God is in control of all weather. Nothing happens without His knowledge of it. Hopefully, these people knew God and did not live for money instead.

  • @doctordemento965

This yacht didn't get sank by a tornado. It is suspected that it was a lightning strike that hit the mast but his account contradicts that. Interesting… FYI… Lynch… the owner of the yacht was a high profile tech billionaire who had been in a long legal battle with HP and he is missing presumed dead.

Many winters ago teacher at my school showed us photos taken from the cockpit as a pilot off the coast of Italy during WWii. RAF. squadrons. From memory (of airfix!) I think they were Avro Ansons or perhaps Defiants, transporting material. On either side, dozens of waterspouts rising up above flying altitude. They were flying low for some reason. I remember his telling us how very vigilant the had to be to avoid those spouts tipping the wings. Apparently they are not that uncommon in the Adriatic and Tyrrhenian.

  • @jesterlead

With a freak storm or a say a rogue wave, would an active gyro stabilizer prevent a capsize? Wonder what their limits are on countering a deadly roll event.

  • @dankerns171

Money will not save you on judgment day!

  • @jfmezei

From a survivability point of view, I am curious what actually happened of most had time to get on lifeboat. (was this somethig deployed, already deployed as a tender, or an inflatable one that separated from boat and self inflated and survivors swam to it? If mother had to hold baby above water, this implies some swimming.
Was this an instant "posseidon adventure"? Obviously not a 2 hour titanic sinking. Were people thrown off the ship, or abandonned ship that was sinking? did ship break apart? Roll over? or huge waves pouring a lot of water into the boat (is that even possible?).
A tornado or violent storm is generally short lived. I woudl have thought any large boat would survive this.

  • @stuarth43

IS SHE HAD been at anchor, she would have been bow on to wind, she would not have been flattened she had the biggest rig made of Alu of any yacht
her righting moment was low, questions will be asked of the designer, who will be very upset

  • @mattheide2775

This is tragic. Thank you for showing the full interview with that Gentleman. Thank you for the video.

  • @MoivinSulunker

"meter" is not a legitimate unit of measurement. Yard, foot, rod, mile, inch. Never go along with the inferiority of others, but stand apart from them and lead the way.

  • @jamesraymond1158

Pronunciation of yacht name is probably "BAYS-ian", not Bayessian. Looking forward to answers to following questions: Did the captain of the rescue boat notice if the Bayesian sail was deployed? Also, can we see Doppler radar for the night of the storm?

  • @kimphilley621

What size and type vessel was the German boat anchored ust ahead.

  • @kimphilley621

Was the owner the Captain or was there a professional crew aboard.

  • @velocitasailing4675

MarineTraffic track suggests it dragged its anchor for about six minutes and then was gone

  • @r.j.martin1818

Sounds like the watch was asleep. That, or there was no acting captain aboard.

  • @frankmckaygmailcom

I don't believe yachts have D.P. (Dynamic Positioning).
Could be wrong, I have been before. But have worked on two Perini Navis which did not.

  • @daniellarge9784

Bayesian is a type of statistics named after the Reverend Bayes who developed the mathematics. Sadly the vessel was unlucky.

  • @MichaelHolloway

higher energy in the atmosphere is producing intense downdraft events at pressure fronts.

  • @jeebusk

    inadequate anchor ⚓
better off sailing in deep water

  • @jwmurphyccsis

Amazing but just shows water spouts can turn a vessel on its side and maybe hatches were open

  • @mariagillinson8527

I wonder if the mast has anything to do, how fast it tipped and then flipped.

  • @berkeleyfuller-lewis3442

News flash: Palmero is in SICILY, not "Sardinia." But all those furrigner Islands look the same, right?

  • @deannalassiter2088

Right now it all seems rather fishy. My gut tells me something else happened. Just my opinion. R.I.P
My heart aches for our world.

  • @angelikaopland7880

There's a reason why 180' sailing vessels aren't usually built as high-aspect-ratio sloops with super-tall masts. Marine architects, take note.

  • @drspock3454

Wow when was the last time a sailing boat of this size sank? And when were so many people lost?? Wow huge news

  • @gigmcsweeney8566

I'm guessing that the rules for crew to passenger ratios must be very different on a private sailing yacht, though 10 crew to 12 passengers seems very low, especially since some of those would've been interior crew. It's hard to see how they could operate a safe and effective rota system with so few crew.

  • @TheBigChill1

Very suspicious the disappearance of a billionaire with problems with the TAX man…

  • @bilyd333

    When God calls…none can resist

  • @peterclark1041

A horrendous natural disaster. Thank you to all the knowledgeable sailors on this sight and eSystem for all the very pertinent experience comments. RIP all those lost.
