If the lifting Keel was in the raised position then the Yacht would become very unstable in bad /severe weather,causing it to heel more than normal and allow the ingress of water through engine and ACU vents. With the keel raised then the righting moment is drastically reduced.

Io sono una Medium Italiana e ho ricevuto messaggi precisi di Hanne Linch, Bette (Elizabeth Judith Bloomer), Mike Linch e quello è stato un naufragio avvenuto per sabotaggio. I messaggi che queste vittime mi hanno mandato sono addiaccianti, seppur precisi, dettagliati nei minimi particolari (…)! Un equipaggio? No! Prezzolati con un unico compito: affondare il Bayesian e il suo armatore.

The keel had to up for vessel to heel over so much.And there had to be openings left open for it to sink so fast.

Imagine a lever and it's labelled "Retractable Keel" or something and one way it says up and the other way says down. Show us how hard it would have been to lower the keel.
