Looks nice, but having just come back from St Malo, it's a pity you weren't arriving/leaving from there, although it's a smaller port and just one route to mainland UK (Portsmouth), ten minutes walk from the terminal and you're in the most beautiful, scenic, charactered old walled granite city, with walkable ramparts, Islands reachable at low tides, gorgeous shops and restaurants, and easy access to other lovely towns such as Dinard across the river, or even to Jersey/Guernsey. I'd heartily recommend a week there to anyone travelling by train/foot, indeed I think Brittany ferries do a "cruise" to St Malo in the off season with included meals in the city and in their a la carte restaurant that also looks good value.

you stumbled upon one of the major French Navy bases there, but it’s hard to not look at their smaller ships in the base from the ferry

I don't comment much on videos on YouTube but I just want to say I've been going through a bad time with my mental health and your videos help me to relax as I have wanderlust and once I'm feeling up to it, I think I'm going to put a ferry to France on my to do list, just hope the missus fancies it too.
Jeez-oh, I crossed on the Barfleur about 20 years ago, and she's still sailing! Plus Auberge de Jeunesse means Youth Hostel (but I daresay you've been told that many times already).
The construction work in Cherbourg harbour is because Brittany is building a railway line. In thé future they will take the lories out or the ship in Cherbourg, load them on trains and send them to the south of France and Spain

For months the nighttime low temperature here has been at or above 78F which is about 25.5C. I’m about 100 miles north of Miami, Florida, mind you. Keeping the apartment at that temperature when I’m at home has been expensive.
It was wonderful to see some of Cherbourg. I've wanted to visit it ever since seeing the posters long ago for the Deneuve film "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg", Nothing like an amble with Steve around a town and its ferry area. Thank you, Steve. P.S. You say the "out" in "about" just like the English-speaking Canadians. Many of them must have Scottish ancestors!
Love your ferry videos Steve, we recently went from Newhaven to Dieppe on the ferry, its a 4 hour crossing, it is very similar to Cherbourg, but has a fantastic market on a Saturday, i think it would make great content for your channel if you ever want another ferry video.

I had a couple of great weekends in Cherbourg with a bunch of skins in a ska band back in the 90s. Ahh the Cadillac bar fond memories.

If you like roundabouts Steve, you should check out those in the Sultanate of Oman. They treat them as almost sacred places and sometimes build castles on them! One has a statue/monument of two giant coffee pots in their pouring positions. Someone should do a documentary on them starting at Muscat and ending up at Salalah. I recommend hiring a 4WD and camping out along the way – you can camp almost anywhere! Hotels are expensive!
Skip Dubai and go on to Oman – more authentic and the people are fabulous – maybe the friendliest in the world! Just don't go between May and October if you are a Scotsman – your eyeballs might boil !

Saint Malo is a beautiful ferry port, especially arriving early in the morning. I am amazed at the cost of the foot passenger ticket, in the old days that would include a car and four passengers.

Almost everywhere you go in Europe you document the decline in the UK. It's a very valuable exercise too as people don't necessarily realise how things are falling apart in Britain particularly if they travel little.

Barfleur and Honfleur are both small communes in Normandy. Never been to Barfleur, but Honfleur is a lovely little port and worth a visit.
