Just finished making my video… I calculated 0.5 seconds of overlap before LR went on to starboard

  • @BRMCaptChaos

Umpires primary focus and responsibility is safety of the competitors, it’s there in black and white.

I don’t see how the natural conclusion to decisions not being close enough, to boats getting closer at massive speeds to prove the penalty, will not involve boats getting too close.

  • @macscott5290

Best episode yet. Honest and full of info. You’ve got LR worried. Keep at it and all the best for the next 3 days racing.

  • @greenstripeypaint

with LRPP on a sub optimal main I think, if Giles was helm, Britannia would have been sailed less aggressively and won it on pure speed

  • @robertbranch1667

turns out that the AC is sailed by different racing right of way rules than normal racing!! Look at thr definition of right of way what tack you are on. Hard to believe a rule as primary as port starboard right of way but they are. Normal tack is defined by main being filled on one side or the other. NOT SO under A"""C rules! By AC rules Its defined by "true wind" on the yacht" Best determiner of that is actually the jib., when the jib starts to come across and is pointed at the mast the tack you are on changes. luna's drivers knew that, Ineos' did not. Who knew?

  • @ReneeHawthorne-c9j

You can tell Ben was pissed off by the way he sailed the boat into the harbour at the end there, usually when you make him angry it doesn't go well for the opposition.

9:12 remember, notwithstanding that they are racing

The *International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea* (COLREGs), also known as the "Rules of the Road," is a set of navigational rules established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). These rules help ensure the safety of vessels at sea by specifying the conduct of vessels in various situations.

The COLREG rule you are referring to is *Rule 2**, known as the **Responsibility Rule**. It states that **all vessels* have a responsibility to avoid collisions. Specifically:

    1. *Rule 2(a)* mentions that nothing in the COLREGs shall exonerate any vessel, crew, or operator from the consequences of neglecting to follow the rules, use caution, or act in accordance with the ordinary practice of seamen.
    2. *Rule 2(b)* allows for some discretion, meaning that in exceptional circumstances, a vessel can depart from the rules to avoid immediate danger.

In summary, Rule 2 places an obligation on all vessels to avoid collisions, regardless of whether they strictly follow the other rules. It emphasizes that safety and the prevention of collisions are the primary responsibility of every vessel.

So in this situation, notwithstanding the fact that IB was the stand-on vessel they were also in a position to avoid a collision. So they were obliged to keep clear and did. I’d rather see good seamanship than an ego promoted collision.

  • @captain-hooked

Mate today was an absolute banger of a race – well done despite the lack of a point. Edge of the seat racing all the way to the final mark. Great stuff!!

  • @grahamwade1505

A couple of times Jimmy on Luna has asked for more oil ? Have the Italians got a smaller tank than the British or are the cyclors on Ineos working harder and pushing the oil quicker to each side as needed

  • @paolopuglisi8443

Of course you all agree about that penalty. 😁 of course. But fortunately you are wrong and we won despite too many mistakes by LR crew.

  • @paolopuglisi8443

To me it looks like when Ben Ainslie shows up for interviews he has the attitude of a bully in the principal's office 🤣 really. You say “don't make him angry”, but to us it seems the opposite, that is, when he gets angry he loses clarity.
Anyway, a great regatta and congratulations to the English for having put us under great pressure until the end.

  • @xalibas

Does anyone know where can i see that virtual eye footage?

  • @oliverjacharlton

Do other teams have an Ian Williams equivalent? Love his insights!

  • @grahmwatson9806

thanks for all the videos. Great to hear some analysis, and a fair and reasonable assessment. Good luck for the coming races!

  • @Cheers_Warren

I would like to see the umpire analysis , I think we are entitled. This is a Multi million event here.
I will accept the decision but the very unique rules need explaining .
    Cheers Warren

  • @timmccarthy4591

So it seems Ineos’ protest for the race 4 start was on the basis of rule 11 – on the same tack, overlapped. Why didn’t Ineos protest LR for gybing too close in the race 4 start – rule 15 – acquiring right of way? It’s pretty clear by Ineos’ high-speed crash gybe that LR didn’t give Ineos adequate opportunity to keep clear….

  • @richardlawton1023

Great racing today. Yesterday was scary at 40+ knots of boat speed.

    Ineos all the way.

  • @duncanflack8129

Love your passion on this Freddie – it's incredible as a viewer to watch these races, and just as impressive to see your excitement and love for races such as these in your brief cameo role as an "independent" viewer. Keep it up Bud, a glittering career awaits in sports punditry!! Go RITA!!!
