the size of the boat does not dictate being able to single hand. Our boat is a 60ft sloop and is was built to short hand, and i have single handed her several times. All sheets/Halyards and reef lines for main and genoa are led back to the cockpit and i have anchor controls at the helm as well. Its an easier boat to sail than a lot of 30ft boats so its not he size but the setup/layout.

With a full keel and balanced sails he shouldn’t need a strong autopilot. Heck that’s one of the best reasons to get a full keel boat!

I would not even consider buying a sailboat without a windvane.

It makes sense that you can get a BUI. How many kids take their boat to a beach and get drunk and fully intent of returning that evening.
Probable cause would apply. Keep it down and keep it calm
