  • @ChangoSun

I ain't even watch the whole video yet and I'm gonna tell you right now, our parents LOVED Yacht Rock 😂

  • @siskodefiant4275

Yacht rock, blue-eyed soul or whatever people want to call it was awesome.

  • @gordon2945

All hip hop does is copy and steal from other artists nothing more it's a bunch of crap and it's the worst thing that ever happened to music end of story

  • @larrylicavoli

Cant believe a term coined on Soulstrut made it into the national lexicon. Crate diggers made this term popular. The guy who made this video doednt know whst hes talking about.

  • @rrobinson9133

I’m glad I know music and black music history the poor man who made this video just doesn’t know at all.

  • @brousswayne1

Back in the day blue eyed soul was regularly played on r&b stations. I love it myself

  • @hadinaqui

    Fascinating documentary.

10 minutes of time well spent.

Class of ‘84 here! (PHILLY) I’ve always explained that RAP was an “underground” genre in the early 80’s. RADIO, TV (think SOUL TRAIN , AMERICAN BAND STAND) was entirely SOUL N Blue eyed SOuL. Disco, Funk, European tech etc WAS OUR generations musical influence.

  • @uofmicha

Double M (Michael McDonald) also got the elusive lifetime invite to the cookout!

  • @sherwinjohnson2794

We’ve never called Doobie Brothers, Bobby Caldwell, Hall and Oates, etc “Yacht Rock” in the black community. 😒😒 What in the world?

  • @rosered3608

These songs are deep in rhythm and blues..they were not faking. This music was ingrained in them..they (McDonald, Fagen, Loggins etc..) were raised on doowop/soul/gospel/country all of this put together is rock & roll.

  • @dimplesd8931

If your African American parents didn’t raise you on Micheal McDonald and yacht rock I feel sorry for you 😂

  • @LS-ub1iq

That was some greedy shit they did to peter gunz, 100,000 wasn't enough, they also wanted all thier publishing and writing credits

  • @bfrancis1151

Rap artist and producers were in search of finding samples that were loaded with soulful rhythms but weren’t well known to new Black audiences. In the past both black and white artists have crossed into each other’s genres with remakes. Examples are: The Isley Brothers soulful remake of Todd Rundgren’s Hello It’s Me or Isaac Hayes cover of Glen Campbell’s By The Time I Get To Phoenix and Buddy Miles popular remake of Neil Young’s Down By The River. Hall & Oats :Sara Smile, The Eagles: I Can’t Tell You Why And Steely Dan: Deacon Blues were inspired by Black soul music.

  • @respectlife216

It’s quite simple, they had soul in their music and we gravitate towards soulful things.

  • @joebuffinton9112

I am thinning on top and am wondering what you are doing up there? It looks natural yet manageable.

  • @fnjesusfreak

I just checked… Apart the singers, all the musicians on "I Keep Forgettin' (Every Time You're Near)" appeared on Thriller. Every single one of 'em.

  • @eliminator173

"Seem like the whole city go against me, everytime I'm in the street I hear YACHT! YACHT! YACHT! YACHT!

  • @eddiesanchez6746

Check out Dj Skizz – Cruise Control for a great Yacht Rap album. The Alchemist & Larry June borrow the style

  • @smokenojoke8182

We call it blue eyed soul music. It’s basically RnB music.

  • @gtripmusic2906

Steely Dan music is about drugs, loneliness, proto-incels, urban decay, and host of other things that are similar to Hip Hop music’s themes

  • @Mr._Moderate

Isn't yacht rock in the house of the big genre soft rock? 🤔

  • @ThePsychicFish

4:53 Black Cow by Steely Dan Was also sampled in Gas Drawls by MF DOOM. That clip certainly triggered my earworm haha

  • @b-boycastertroy

This guy has ZERO knowledge of Undergound Hip-hop 😂✌️

  • @brycedownpitch

Calling soft rock "yacht rock" is like calling hip-hop or R&B "urban" to me. Way too gimmicky of names for such great genres; both of them.

  • @Kamala_b

    Yacht Rock's foundation is rnb.

  • @trillian777

Yacht Rock is not a thing. It's just Granola R&B. Can we please stop pretending this isn't an entirely racialized distinction.

  • @tjudah9022

    Yacht Rock???
Im 51 years old and never heard it being called that. I always called it Blue Eyed Soul.

  • @misterrightuk

I feel ike that Steely Dan kinda did Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz dirty taking 100% of everything.

  • @jermfra4005

One of the music genres Black
Americans created was R&B. Miss me with this "soft rock" which ain't kmow different. So The Commodores sang white music?

  • @gearienoxcuses3936

Yacht Rock? It’s white people’s version of r&b soul music and nothing more. Why do white people try to separate their black inspired music with the word rock? Prince was a punk rock act when he debut but the radio labeled him as an rhythm and Blues artist. Ambrosia was channeling black soul music with “Biggest Part of Me”. Why wouldn’t HipHop use it and other music. Michael McDonald was a member of the Doobie Brothers. A soulful racially mix band with black and white members. Mike’s soulful voice blended well with black radio. Why wouldn’t HipHop gravitate toward it. It was our music. Our nostalgic musical root.

  • @lambandalion82

Yatch Rock lol 😒just soul and r&b with white artist. Retro actively named meaning yall just made up something.
