how does one actually get into the class or gaining sponsorship, is it a simple fact of racing in solo offshore racing and being noticed or can you join a mentoring team

Is this another case of arrogant canuck who believes "can do attitude" will compensate lack of skills and experience? I hope this "skipper" will be able to hire some serious offshore sailors for crewed races. For his own sake.
