În acest episod vorbesc despre ceea ce am învățat încercând să proiectez sistemul electric pentru traulerul meu de buzunar. Bateriile cu litiu prezintă unele probleme de care trebuie să fii conștient. Hi Joe. I want to say Marry Christmas and Happy New year to you and …. Tchan … I bought a Bruce Robert motorboat 43ft .. I am very excited with some cosmetics projects. Be happy dear friend. I am from Canoas City, Brazil
Well done Joe.
No plan survives first contact with the enemy…
You are doing it right – get a pro at least for consultation, follow the ABYC rigorously and use Victron everything. Ask me how I know…
🎉
Oh, and invest in a Temco hydraulic cable crimper up to 4/0 cable. Ask me how I know…
Happy Holidays! Please, take a moment to Subscribe. 😁
Very sound advice, in the words of Dirty Harry, “A man’s gotta understand his limitations”
Paying very close attention Joe. Keep it rolling hot in the New Year! Cheers! Rick
A great episode with loads of valuable insights. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.
Although I understand your desire to keep with one charging and regulating system, you may want to consider a split system using the older technology exclusively for the engine system and the lithium for all your other electrical needs. By the way, you can install more than one alternator on that engine.
Happy New Year to you and your family 🎉.
Just to be sure it’s clear, LiFePO4 is lithium iron phosphate, not lithium “ion” phosphate. 😎 Lithium ion (Li-ion) batteries should be nowhere near a boat.
Lifepo4 is the only way to go nowadays. Half the weight twice the power and 10x the lifespan. Start battery should be the only AGM that you buy anymore. Alternator charging lithium is not hard you can add dc to dc charger or regulator for alternator. If you have an alternator that can produce 100amp you don’t need anything as most bms on lithium will only charge at 100amps. Currently on my boat I’ve got lifepo4 and I parallel connect them to AGM and charge from alternator had this setup 5yrs now. Currently I’m designing a 50amp 240v split phase setup and I’m going with Victron. 120amp alternator will work on lithium read battery and it will say it only accepts 100amps to charge.
Joe- you're reading too much into the abyc standard. I'm actually studying to get my ABYC electrical cert. You are fine with having the fuel fill and vent running along side the batteries. Just can't have batteries laying directly on top- or below- a fuel tank without a deck partition. So no need to re-route your fuel fill and vent
Okay, there is one nuance you may be off base here. Please talk to your consultant about this. 12v is fine and all that, BUT if you spec 24v or 48v, you’ll save a great deal of money in wiring and components, then finally convert to 12v for the appliances running electrical. It would be interesting if you did a follow-up on this explaining the cost savings. I think 48v might be close to half your total project cost.
