#vg2024 #imoca #vendeeglobe #sailing

exclusion zone forced them westwards- otherwise they would be in the breeze in the east

Thank you for all your daily updates. Even though I'm a non-sailor I find the reports absolutely fascinating with just about the right content. Best wishes to you all and all those competing in the Vendée Globe. Happy New Year!

Interesting tour of Conrad's bow compartments – incredible naval architecture and mechanical engineering goes into those IMOCA 60's!

  • @rolandtb3

A shower after 1 month. Enjoying flat seas, sunrise/sunset, seawater colors, slight reprieve to recharge. Another rudder damaged and jerry rigged to continue. Some interesting twists heading north.

Happy New Year and many thanks for your service, dear Mark. Am always looking forward to your report, and each day of the race is exciting. Feel very sad for Yannik, truly hope this was the last retirement in the VG. Keeping all sailors in thoughts and prayers.

For non French speakers, fyi by "course" Sébastien means "race", it's a translation error

  • @markcotgrove2708

great update as usual however please stop pronouncing Yoann as Ewan!! Say it phonetically, so Yo-Ann 😅

  • @bones1225

Good luck and happy new year to all the legends. Go guys and girls.

I've watched the Tour de France for decades. And I've always thought that drama was unmatched in any other sport. But this race is 3x longer and 10x more interesting.
Also: side note: my fellow cyclists love to complain about how expensive our sport is. Clearly, they've never shopped for a headsail.

  • @chriscartwright5771

Thank you for the daily summaries. They help me to enjoy and understand the race better.

    Happy New Year!

I recently returned to sailing after a 35 year gap and qualified as a day skipper in 2024 – but now I’m hooked again (only this time round I can actually afford it!)

I am blown away by this race! It is literally a world away from my own cautious holiday boating, and the skippers are absolutely heroic! Pip especially is an inspiration!

Thank you so much for this content. It is a very clear, understandable explainer of the progress of the race, especially with the Predict Wind segments which bring to life the complexities of racing. The combination of strategic challenge with physical endurance is incredible! The skill & resilience of the skippers is absolutely breathtaking.

Meanwhile, when I sail it’s with a cup of tea, a bacon sandwich, and the flat seas surrounding Greece…

I strongly suspect this will be the last solo Vendee Globe. Why? I think when the sponsors realize how little people tuned in…they will no longer support this. How long can one watch someone sitting in a swinging chair looking at flat screens? Half the group in the lead speak no English and there has been no attempt to translate.
I think the crewed Vendee is here to stay. With an OBR dedicated to making it interesting, with crew interactions that break the monotony, with amazing shots of the boat under sail, that is entertaining.
So, let’s enjoy this last solo!!!

  • @McGyverPilot

According to my calculations and all things remaining the same, Richomme needs to average just under .5 knots faster than Dalin for remainder of the race in order to still Win. That's not asking much and Dalins lead could be short-lived.

  • @davidnichols147

Amazing footage by Conrad Colman, these IMOCA's are truly an architectural feat. Cheers to all sailors and wishing them a safe passage and a Happy New Year.
