  1. I know of some fishing trawlers coming over a dangerous bar. They would have their prop in reverse and rev the hell as a wave would come up to the rear of the boat. Basically, he pulled the boat backwards over the wave as it went under them. Of course, there was a huge bang as the wave crashed into the boats stern. It was the only way to prevent the boat from being pushed forward and broaching.

  2. Yup I have used a drogue numerous times very handy bit of kit to have but most don’t carry one and unfortunately most people don’t know what they are or what they can be used for.
Not so good in a calm sea but any sort of chop or rough sea they can be a life saver!
I have used it for holding head to sea and for towing other vessels. But the funny thing is it doesn’t take a lot of training to use one! 30mins max.

  3. You don't know wtf you talking about. That diagram of sea anchor attached to stern will get you a wave over the transom. What does coming into the channel have to do with a sea anchor

  4. Many accidents at sea could have been avoided if many more people knew how to use a sea drogue and have one aboard.
I have used one many times during my 40 years at sea.

  5. Yes, one anchors you in place the other anchors you to the surface of the water. Is my answer right? Im going off common sense! I know nothing about boating so I have no buisness on the water piloting a boat but thats what my brain says is the answer. So, am I correct or no?

  6. This is all bs. In heavy seas you tie the sea anchor to the bow not the stern unless you’re trying to sink the boat. And the boat that runs aground was probably trying to enter the inlet where you would never use any kind of anchor. Just bad seamanship.
