The 96' PRINCIPIA, one of my favorite old boats. A L. E. Geary design, she was built in 1928 at Lake Union Dry Dock & Machine Works in Seattle, WA. She served the US Government in WWII as a Fire boat on the Columbia R. After the war she was purchased from the government and used to transport hunters to Kodiak, AK on the Inside Passage. In 1975 she was at Marina Del Ray, CA where she was owned by singer John Davidson that used her for his family and charter. Year unknown to me, she made it to the East Coast. Some years ago I was very surprised to her in a shed at Atlantic Yacht Basin (AYB) being painted. However, I have never seen her underway on the ICW. Saw her crossing the bridge out on the fuel dock and took these pictures. The full length picture was taken from the Great Bridge Battlefield Park and the other two taken at the marina in Chesapeake, VA. Photo date 3-30-2025. Motorboat Magazine August 1977 has a nice article and interior pictures of her. Her aft deck is so inviting. Additional info found out today 3-31-2025. She will be leaving Chesapeake this week for Newport, RI for restoration at a local yard.
