Looks to me like you get your moneys worth more out of MSC Yacht Club. It's all nice having nice decour and tech, but thats there anyway. Repetitive food menus or lack of it puts me off the Retreat. Wheres your money gone ?

The food and service are definitely a good value in Yacht club. However, the entertainment and overall upscale feel of a Celebrity Edge class ship is much better for me. MSC Seashore felt like if a cruise ship was the Vegas Strip it would be the Seashore. Love the feel of Edge class with the shades of blue, tons of real plants and greenery and natural looking wood finishes.
Who needs a butler on a ship? Absolute waste of time.
What is missing from this analysis is how much weight you apply to each category. The full ship experience is very important, and Celebrity wins that category, and I don’t think it’s even close.
My wife and I sailed on Seascape in February of this year. The overall sailing was an OK experience. Our senior butler was nonexistent to say the least. We saw him a total of 5 times during our 7 day sailing, in fact we saw the Captain of the ship and spoke with him more than our butler. There were several other service issues as well as an electrical problem with our cabin. We addressed the electrical issue the first day, but we had to keep reminding them of the issue and by the evening of the third day it was resolved. Come to find out concierge never put in the work order on the first day like they told us they did. Our Junior butler was awesome and we frequently interacted with him and he took care of us within his ability. The priority/escorting off/on the ship was a joke at best. Even on the last day they took a group of us from the Yacht Club to the line to get off the ship and just left us there with the rest of the cruisers. It took over 30 minutes to disembark the ship. I did address these concerns with staff while onboard but it seemed like nothing was done to address the issues. Post cruise I sent an email to MSC and they were quick to address the concerns and invited us back to sail again. I hope our next sailing with MSC will be much better as depicted in the multiple YouTube videos we watched prior to sailing. Also for the record, our expectations weren’t high, as we have had butler service at resorts and understand that guest to staff ratios dictate what happens. But this sailing was underwhelming at best.
Having a butler is not important to us. Rarely used one on Celebrity Retreat class. It's the total experience that's important and that's where Celebrity wins.
You will never convince me that anything with msc in it is better than celebrity. One of the main problems with msc is the rest of the ship. As you said it is very crowded and overrun with kids. Further, the food in he yacht club can’t hold a candle to celebrity. Fine dining every night. I am hesitating trying explora because it’s attached to msc.
You also mislead people about the retreat menus. You make it seem the menus are the same every night. That is not true. Only part of the special offerings are the same but the menus change constantly
The older Celebrity ships do not have a pool in the Retreat. Dealbreaker for me. The Edge class ships are a lot more expensive than Yacht Club. I thought my YC cruise was a great value!
something you STILL NOT address is that the yacht club is quite DIFFERENT on different class ships !!!! the BIGEST world class ships Yacht club is now TOO BIG and suites are also "outside" of the yacht club area – long walks – the food is also INCONSISTANT !!!! MSC EXPLORA JOURNEY is the way to go if you want luxe peace and quiet !
You seemed to enjoy having a butler show you to your room. We love our butlers, but I’d rather not have them lead us to our room. Just us, I guess. I enjoyed Celebrity’s Lounge, then went on board first, ahead of other passengers. Once onboard, I immediately dropped my bags in my suite and enjoyed a Luminae lunch. That is part of the embarkation.
I have been a Celebrity cruiser for 20 years in the Penthouse and other suites, I am just back from an MSC Yacht Club Royal Suite cruise and I can tell you hands down MSC have a better service by a mile. The Retreat on Celebrity is nowhere near Yacht Club for the space given and the facilities within it, Yacht Club is a true 'ship within a ship' where you never need to the leave, the area, the restaurant has a huge selection of really fine foods, far superior to the limited Luminae menu, also the restaurant serves breakfast lunch and dinner and not just on sea days for lunch. There is also a full selection of food all day both outside and in the Top Sail lounge. There is live music every night in the Top Sail lounge, the Retreat lounge by comparison is more like an airport waiting lounge. Finally no matter what level of suite you choose in Yacht Club you are met and escorted to the lounge and then to your suite, value for money is great, MSC also matched my Elite Plus status to MSC Gold, so there were more savings, sorry but I won't be back on Celebrity as the Retreat offering is just not enough for the money they are charging.
We've been on 4 MSC cruises and on Celebrity Apex once. Both are fantastic, with MSC having larger/flashier ships available and Celebrity being more relaxed and refined. The Celebrity Apex experience was wonderful. Their specialty restaurants were all better than MSC equivalents, though MSC's were fine. We did think the MSC YC areas were better than Celebrity's Retreat area. We were in an Edge Villa on the Apex and it was great, but our upcoming stay on the World America in an equivalent room (Duplex Suite w/whirlpool) literally costs about half of what the Edge Villa did. Overall we didn't think the Retreat was worth the extra money so we'll most likely stick with MSC in the future.
We have sailed on board different MSC ships five times and are booked for an upcoming cruise for New Year’s. Our wait staff in the Yacht Club dining room was always the same each evening. Always found a great food experience and have even the Chef visit with us and asked if there was anything special we wished to have. The ships are gorgeous and you cannot beat the value for the cost.
everything is so subjective that no one's opinion matters … folks getting their dopamine hit fighting it out in the comments are usually the ones who couldn't really afford either in the first place and will be making their klarna payments for the next decade …
I booked a cruise on Celebrity in the retreat and they promised a butler will take you to your suite. From the videos I have seen on YouTube MSC groups you togeather then once on board you are separated and escorted to the yacht club where you wait for your room to be ready. At least on Celebrity you get to drop off your bags even if your room is not ready. I'm not sold on MSC yet. I think the big draw to MSC is the price they are cheaper, but for how long. Look at Carnival they use to be the cheapest now they are not. MSC is a shipping company but with the upcoming tariffs there will be less shipping which will hurt MSC shipping company and it will reflect on there cruise ships quality.
Luminae is closed port days for lunch. YC Restaurant is open. Great option for those that stay on the ship.
I stayed in MSC YC Deluxe Balcony Suite on Seascape the shower is great, size water pressure was perfect even has a seat , the Celebrity Bath tub is not for me , I don't take baths and showering in a bath tub is not for me. You are correct MSC WIFI was great, I had to work so that is important, Maria is GREAT , I think I told you in another post that I sang to her "Maria " from West Side Story and after that I was Teachers Pet.
Celebrity suites are much more expensive than MSC, so the cabins can’t truly be compared
