Winning the America's Cup was a big deal in Australia; so much so that we had an unofficial public holiday on the day after the victory.
The man who funded the Australian boat was named Alan Bond or "Bondy", an English migrant who had become a multimillionaire through his business dealings.
A few years later he was jailed for financial irregularities; I forget the exact details of his crimes.

Well you were very lucky to be there at that historical moment, though i guess no-one really knew weeks before that it was going to a historical moment, America had won every time before that everyone believed it was a forgone conclusion. It was a big important day here in Australia and caused many people who never knew about sailing to suddenly become interested.

I have the same problem with faces and names. If I meet people in unfamiliar places I can't recall who they are. It takes weeks, months even years before I can place them. Really annoying.
