go for the quiet rustic place. living aboard is like living in a trailer park or stay in manila and sail to the other place. your are going to get handy period.

Where you find your next boat may have something to do with where you may want to continue keeping it. The boat may come with a slip/mooring contract or lease and you might want to just continue the relationship with the marina that has already been holding it there. Also, if you are getting into a more serious relationship with a Filipina this might play into your decision with regards to what she prefers and her family and friends. Finally, there is a lot to be said for the expanded services available in Manila although the more remote location may have lower costs if more limited services. I would think that dive services for cleaning the bottom regularly would be a big item for recurring costs. While I am personally handy working on our boat diving the bottom is the one item I am willing to spring for a pro to.do it for us. But since we are almost always moving we only really need to have it done a couple of times a year. A boat that spends most of its time in a marina will probably need the job done monthly.

Have you been shopping for boats? Can you share with us what kind you're leaning toward? My only thought would be Manila at first, until you get really familiar
with your boat (unless you have one already) and its maintenance needs, and then Puerto Galera once you gain a baseline of confidence with your vessel.
