a small boat going fast is as small as the wake will get… if you gotta brace for this, just dont go on water

Alternative option:
Increase speed, steadily, as you turn towards the wake. Check your trim and continue adding speed as you address the oncoming "fun-hill of water." Brace for elevation. Be ready to throttle-down, should you become fully airborne.

My problem is when someone passes me. from behind, and kicks up a huge wake.
