Do they have any chance of running the record down now or has that bird flown? If there is no chance of beating the record they may as well chuck in the towel and start planning for a second attempt, there's no point in continuing if the record is unreachable they may as well go home and save the boat from wear and tear or possible devastation and complete ruination of the boat. These huge tri's are pretty fragile just by the nature of the boat, the width and many foils and boards down across the width of the boat means any collision with something, especially a whale/whales if hit directly across it's length would be devastating on that tri and the speeds these travel at would easily catch out a pod of swimming or resting whales. Then there's shipping containers, trees etc etc
