Curious about deck stepped mast and square topped main. Running backs needed if you don't want to rely on aft swept spreader rig which limits boom travel... Not super cruiser-friendly to tend those during a tack?

Will you spec higher weight chain if only 30m? Anchors love to be pulled horizontally. I heard an Antarctic sailor who said which anchor? Doesn't matter if the chain is big enough.

Hope to see a good watch standing station... out of the weather with good vis= healthy crew.

Are you building wind vane/trim tab steering into your steering system? What insulation? Same as your van?

It’s all super interesting and there are endless possibilities - the difficult bit is making the decision so you can get on and implement. Leaving aside this journey of discovery you are embarking upon (clearly a long term project), what exactly is the intended vessel configuration for transiting the canals and when are you going start executing that work package. Have you got an intended timeframe for getting back to UK? Wishing you both a Merry Christmas and all the best for 2026.

I think you'll want to line your chain well to prevent corrosion of the chain and boat. Some hard plastic sheets are a practical solution I've seen.

One piece of advice from MJ sailing. They rebuild a 37’ Alum boat , and now building a fiberglass catamaran.
He found that buying too many products Before he needed them was a mistake because some things didn’t work and others where out of date or newer versions needed , or plans and ideas just changed! etc.
So on my rebuild I’m going to be buying parts as needed…..
