I'm sure I'm duplicating things, I didn't read the 450 comments you got in the last day. But, yes, Dennis DeYoung (lead singer, pianist, synths on here) was a broadway style singer, wanted to write musicals, I think he did eventually write musicals. He was also the lead singer on Mr. Roboto. But, there were two other lead vocalists, Tommy Shaw (also guitar, guitar synths) and James Young (also guitar), and one of the Panozzo Brothers, I think Chuck, but the bass player, also did harmony vocals. A whole lot of overlap and availability of skills, and of vocal ranges (Tommy was the high harmony you mentioned, James and Chuck usually sang low harmonies).. One of those bands where you can hear two songs and think they're totally different bands, because there's a totally different lead vocalist, one was written to be guitar-centric, the next oriented to piano and keys. These guys were so underrated. Thanks for reviewing this.

"Lady" must be the next Styx song reaction. Dennis DeYoung wrote, and recorded Lady in 1972 as a tribute to his wife Suzanne. Although it was released in 73, didn't become a hit until 1975. Its the first massive hit Styx had.
Dennis DeYoung also wrote their hit "Babe" (1979) for his wife.
Dennis and Suzanne (his HS sweetheart) have been married since 1970…55 years now. Dennis is 78 but he first formed the band that would become Styx at age 15 with his neighborhood friends, the Ponozo brothers. Dennis had 2 differemt guitar players before JY was hored in 1972 when he decided to change the band name from Tradewind to Styx. Tommy Shaw auditioned and was hired in Dec 1975.

This was, for a period, my favorite album when it was released. That is the album, as a whole. "Castle Walls" was probably my favorite track. But, having said that, I always listened to it in the context of the LP. In particular, it's practically inseparable from "Man in the Wilderness", which precedes it. It's surprisingly cohesive to have been credited to multiple writers.

Sweetie Styxs happen to have three guys that could do lead vocals and a fourth one that did once and the 70s compared to the time when Mr roboto came out was Ray rockier better music and yes beautiful I've seen them live more than once and I love the fact that you're actually a train musician cuz I understand what you're talking about cuz I am also but my instrument of choice was voice and yes when healthy I had a for active range base in to soprano
