Judging the waves the wind was considerably below 40 knots. I estimate it at maximum 28 – 30 knots. He has exaggerated the wind for click baits. Anyhow I would use vest and line

Why do you need to charge your batteries with the engine, having a Watt&Sea? I'd expect it to be more than enough, expecially in the brisk breeze you had?
