Our ‘two masted 32 meter’ fishing lugger ‘Sirius’ was moored in the commercial harbor during the Falkland crisis and we were carrying our Dutch Antillian Flag.
Ocean Village is an OK Marina. Sometimes a bit noisy with all the clubs there. Spent many nights there while doing our RYA courses. I prefer Queensway Quay though as I thought is was quieter and a little more convenient to the supermarket. Plus we loved the restaurants there, which catered more to good food rather than night life. Also, we were able to have work done on the boat on the dock. All in all we've loved the many times we've visited the Rock.

Having sailed extensively in that area since the orcas became an issue and having completed your recent trip more than a handful of times, I wouldn’t personally, be quite so blasé about your boat being so impervious to orca attacks. I agree that spade rudders are far more vulnerable, but I’ve seen first hand, the severe damage inflicted on substantially built boats. I remember seeing one heavy displacement boat with a rudder fully supported like on a HC and yes, the metalwork remained in situ after the attack albeit it was bent. However, there was very little grp left - just bare SS tangs. Don’t underestimate the sheer power of those whales! I saw no shame in staying close inshore from Cadiz until east of Tarifa and on more than one occasion, witnessed distress calls from those that didn’t. In the end, you ended up doing pretty well that anyway.
