Until you have to pay for dockage.
All that works great until you have to do a haul out and bottom paint or buy a mainsail or renew your rigging or do an engine rebuild or replacement. And dockage isn't cheap, nor is it getting cheaper. I've looked at the math as well, been looking at the math for years now and owning a liveaboard is NOT cheaper than rent unless you are talking about rent in LA or NYC or San Diego or some other high end metro.
