1. Don’t know if the bank you mentioned was the Trafalgar but I remember a Spanish saying that went something like Trafalgar: o muy a tierra, o muy a la mar which basically means stay either close to land or way out at sea 🙂

  2. A great little book; a good choice of sponsors! We have the perfect siblings (nephew/niece) for this one! My wife and I are preparing to shove off on our own adventures later this summer. Meanwhile, it is always a breath of fresh air to see Sailing Fair Isle — simply one of the very best sailing shows online — current, and you two still such a great team. Warmest wishes for a Orca-free Med vacation. You are both appreciated way over on the Oregon Coast! (still waiting for your circumnavigation? : ) Cheers! Dorian and Cathy on SV Arcanum

  3. Love watching your escapades but have noticed the terrible sound on your intro preamble and your sign offs usually done on deck.

  4. I'm not a sailor and I'm too old to start, but I am embarking on motor cruising, with an eye to spending time in the Med. This is a new ambition, after a life of flying helicopters and small planes. I can't help but notice how sailors are such lovely people – I wish I had noticed this earlier!

  5. Mate, Im happy you made it, just for reference. In your case It's not the rudder you should worry about, it is the quadrant the autopilot and the steering cables. Ive seen multiple broken quadrants from metal boats and keel hung rudders. Cheers and fair winds 💪

  6. Not so many ships anymore? That could be because not so many ships, or none at all, are coming through the Suez Canal anymore, thanks to the Houthi rocket attacks.

  7. We were so excited to see you drop this latest video. You guys are our idols! We recently completed nearly the same run, ending in Gibraltar as well. We’ve been watching and following you for quite some time now.
We’re currently in Cartagena and will be traveling around the Med for the next few years. Perhaps we’ll cross paths someday!
Warm (and I mean that) regards,

  8. Yes, that part of crazy water is a real washing machine. We went through it as well. So a guy hug the coast there, but I did not have the balls.
I can see the shaft anode is loose, but also it looks like all three tip of the hub anode screws are sticking out about 1/2". Is it normal?

  9. Hi, nice video, I also have an autoprop since more then five years, in the beginning I had the same problem that the zink anode came loose and also making rateling noise. What helped for me is to put some heatshrink on the last part of the treath of the nylon m6 bolds, in this way the anode is perfect in the center. When fixing the bolds, put some locktide on it and screw them realy tight. Best regards, Wim

  10. We sailed through the staits on our way to Greece at night with a lot of dolphins guiding us through , 0 wind , good tide and a searchlight picked us up and stayed on us until we were well past Gibraltar , we felt under suspicion , spooky . We anchored in the "no anchoring "bay too 😁

  11. Another great and very enjoyable video guys; thnx!
One question with regard to the Orca’s: I listened to what you said about your boat and the Orca threat, but are there any data to prove the ‘theory’ on different UW profiles (like your long keel and attached rudder) and the ‘attractiveness’ for Orca’s?
    Cheers
    Harry

  12. Cant believe its been 6+ yrs since you last explored "the rock". Congrats, and nice to see your family visiting. Shame you missed out on Cadiz. Weird the zinc isnt fitting. So you will file down the mating faces to get a better fir? Hope you can get it off !

  13. Looking forward to seeing your travels around the Med ( again). I’m sure you enjoyed the short break with your daughter and grandchildren on board. Safe travels.

  14. Very timely video as we’ll be following your path in the months to come after we cross over in June. Thank you! One thing that has mea bit perplexed is that you don’t seem to be in any particular hurry, so how are you managing the Schengen Shuffle? Enquiring minds would love to know. 😊 sv Zia

  15. I read somewhere that a delivery skipper dropped a hand held flare in the water on a line. The smoke continues in water and confuses Orca a lot apparently. Just hearsay though and we all know what sailors' tales are like…😁

  16. Lovely family time and everyone working together so well. Brilliant movie making as normal. Thank you for sharing with us, looking forward to seeing lots of the med.

  17. My favourite Brits at my favourite sailing channel. Thank you.
Two quick questions, if you don’t mind.
On the topic of navigation, how do you manage Navionics and Orca as you use both: which is the primary, which takes precedence, and what do you think of Orca?
On the topic of Venice you mentioned you’d visit again, and I know you winterised your boat at Certosa Marina once — what do you think of the Marina Santelena (I may want to stay there in 2026). Fair winds!!

  18. Two questions, when comes the verdict and experiences with the brunton autoprop, when motorsailing.
Whats the gain off the stormsail( dont know the exact englisch) with the genua working toggether ,gain in knots ?
Ps those three bolts on the anode looks ready to fel off together with the anode ( prop itself anode)

  19. Having sailed extensively in that area since the orcas became an issue and having completed your recent trip more than a handful of times, I wouldn’t personally, be quite so blasé about your boat being so impervious to orca attacks. I agree that spade rudders are far more vulnerable, but I’ve seen first hand, the severe damage inflicted on substantially built boats. I remember seeing one heavy displacement boat with a rudder fully supported like on a HC and yes, the metalwork remained in situ after the attack albeit it was bent. However, there was very little grp left – just bare SS tangs. Don’t underestimate the sheer power of those whales! I saw no shame in staying close inshore from Cadiz until east of Tarifa and on more than one occasion, witnessed distress calls from those that didn’t. In the end, you ended up doing pretty well that anyway.

  20. Appreciate you have a get out of Brexit passport… but would love to hear your ideas on how to manage the shengen shuffle… best show !

  21. Ocean Village is an OK Marina. Sometimes a bit noisy with all the clubs there. Spent many nights there while doing our RYA courses. I prefer Queensway Quay though as I thought is was quieter and a little more convenient to the supermarket. Plus we loved the restaurants there, which catered more to good food rather than night life. Also, we were able to have work done on the boat on the dock. All in all we've loved the many times we've visited the Rock.

  22. Great vid and thank you for the coffee and cake lovely meeting you both at ocean village I made it to Almirimar by skin of my teeth big seas hope you have great season take care Lee

  23. Great to see your passage as we did same a year go November … great to see so many familiar places again. Also stayed in Ocean Village but then took a few months in Tangier before returning to Gib and hauling out over the border in La Linea.

    Thanks for sharing your journey.

  24. Funny you seem to sail the world and as soon as you are approaching GIB, misty in the distance, your face lits up and later on you confirm being happy as ever being back in “Britain” ‘ hip hip HURRAY ‘. I’m on home soil 😮 Fish and chips, warm beer, Curry, Brompton bikes, Guns defending the Empire, well the ROCK is for the home-sick…and….the restless. Our ‘two masted 32 meter’ fishing lugger ‘Sirius’ was moored in the commercial harbor during the Falkland crisis and we were carrying our Dutch Antillian Flag. She was Marine Grey with white lettering and Pappa Julia Alpha Kilo on the roof of her wheelhouse. Most service-men in their Royal Marine blues were Training their binoculars on us from the safety of their Frigate quarters and….saluting… when they passed by….. 4 weeks later we were back in Amsterdam.
