  1. Glad to see you getting professional help with rebuilding the Diesel engine. Having dependable power on a sailboat is very important these days with restricted harbors and marine docks. Many sailors tend to ignore their engines until it is too late. So it is important in my view to learn as much as possible from knowledgeable people when rebuilding or overhauling. Good point about knowing what spare parts to carry on board. I have read that it is good practice to remove good parts with spares and store the used part as spare. That way you will not find that the spare you bought a year ago doesn’t actually fit although it may look the same. Great progress but you both look COLD!

  2. Those Perkins Primas are not a genuine Pekins engine nor a proper marine engine. Its just a Vauxhall automotive engine marinised by Perkins.
Biggest problems with them is always always the colling system, mainly the heatexchanger and the small spade drive that is connected to the canmshaft that drives the saltwater pump. And check/change the cambelt religously along with the tensioners and idler pulleys.

  3. I think I may have spent the time honing the barrels on the old engine, however as you are not mechanics and don't want to spend the time on reconditioning the engine. Totally get the compromise.
You guys are fantastic, and your narrative works superbly, I am looking forward to your next episode.😁
