I thought I had read somewhere that MGM had originally wanted the Duncan Sisters to star in "The Bradway Melody", but that they weren't available at the time. This, apparently, was their consolation prize. Since "TBM" was released prior to this, the movie audience apparently gave "It's A Great Life" the "ho-hum"… Unfortunate, I suppose, because you can clearly see that MGM put some money into it…
Thanks.
Wonderful
"Duncan Sisters" color and sound in 1929……simply awesome when sound came to the movies!
Love the song, what a beauty in dance and lyrics! Wish this was the art we saw today but sadly it's all these twerking and ghetto lyrics..
How could you post something like this and not inform us what film it is from?! I guess information doesn't mean much to some people.
I cannot believe that this motion picture was produced 87 years ago. All of players in this film have passed away a long time ago, but they look as if they`re still alive today. This is a magic of movies. They will live forever in this film.
From IT'S A GREAT LIFE (1929), starring The Duncan Sisters (Vivian (the tall one) and Rosetta) and Lawrence Gay. Ann Dvorak is in the chorus (left center). The Duncan Sisters were among the biggest Vaudeville stars of all time. Their only other feature film was the 1927 silent TOPSY AND EVA. Lawrence Gray was a major leading man in silents and early talkies, working with major stars like Gloria Swanson and Marion Davies.
Ah, I just love this great stuff from the 1920's! Again, what an era!
Turner Classic Movies and YouTube are the best preservers of this wonderful stuff from another era!
They had lesbians in color, even back then! who knew? starting at 2:50
Wonderfully Wierd!
Heard this song on an episode of Miss Fishers Mysteries-great, catchy lyrics
No special effects in those days. The props were as you see them. Those were NOT happy go lucky times. The stock market crashed that year sending millions of people into bankruptcy , poverty, and suicide. People needed cheery songs to help them forget their problems. Prohibition was in full swing closing thousands of breweries & distilleries sending EVEN more people to the unemployment/ soup lines. Some of the BEST musicals, and memorable songs were written back then. Guys like Busby Berkeley produced some spectacular chorus shows. Those girls worked their asses off, or go without. It was The "Best of times, and the worst of times!" My folks grew up in the '20's. According to them it, "Was no picnic!"
Super excellent with very good interesting video
1929-2019! So much has changed but I still go to the past for good music )))

We are very lucky to have these little snippets available to watch in digital format … who really cares about the quality as long as they were saved from destruction like many thousands were. 👍👍😜😜

That was fantastic!
This video has only 63,292 views. It might be 63,300 in the future, but that's not enough. What could give this video 500,000 or 1,000,000 views?
Imagine the euphoria and goosebumps watching this on live
