3. I was meaning to mention, if you haven’t read it yet, check out “Two Years Before the Mast” by Richard Henry Dana. Non fiction about Dana who spent 2 years sailing the same route you are in the 1830’s when Mexico still owned California. Might make for some interesting reading during down time.
