  1. You have visited Dekker Watersport. A very complete store but a bit expensive. On the way there you pass Klaas Mulder. They also have a lot of nautical stuff and a lot cheaper.

  2. I was about to say fill in the through-hulls, get a composting toilet, and sink drains above the water line… then you said it!
why would anyone want a hole in their boat?

  3. Please wear gloves when you are working with epoxy! otherwise you can build up an allergic reaction to the hardener, and then no more boat building for you! I was glad to see more gloves towards the end of the video.
Working inside of those pahi wells is hell. You are probably sanding in there already! You can avoid sanding if you use peel ply! especially useful for inside areas like that!!! I'd also recommend using the freezer bag squeeze out technique!

  4. The pumps feel expensive but are worth it. Another thing that will save you a lot is to buy the epoxy in a 20L container, it becomes MUCH cheaper in larger units. Just sell what you have left over when you leave the boat yard! (if there is any left!)

  5. another Portland Oregon here! Penetrating epoxy for wood repair is key. maybe an acetone dilution, but…. id start over with your repair area to penetrate that soft wood, and id let it dry out another week or more before attempting to work on it. obviously the epoxy wont penetrate wet wood…..

  6. Great to see you advance to bring Mahi closer to sailing, thanks for taking the time to explaining all the progress. Good job Mark.

  7. always impressive to see this kinfd of epoxy job while filming ! You will not regret your investment in pumps in a couple of days believe me . Easier to cut all the fiber bands and layers in advance and write a number on it to win time when your epoxy is mixed , specially during hot summer days when you lack of work time befor polymerisation . You could wet your fiber on a plastic sheet and transfer it when soaked . if your resin is a little bit to fluid add a few 406 to incrrease viscosity. No joke always wear a mask when you add the powder ,this silica particles will stay in your lungs for ever ….
I will definitely add to layers of fiber above your external side , next time use your plywood patch to mesure and cut fiber tow inches around …
Hang on you are on the right track !

  8. Great vid Mark, all the vid work and clearly loads of work, u r one busy guy. Thanks for the effort and I am sure Mahi will take you far once you are happy with your repairs 👏👏👏👏

  9. OMG so many through holes and so low down. They frighten the life out of me and I think I would seal them all up if I was going across oceans!!!

  10. CHUCK THE UN- NESSESARY !!!.
CHECK OUT A SILASTIC CALLED 747. TRANSLUCENT. DON'T USE THE BLACK !…
I USE IT FOR EVERYTHING. LOVES PRE SMEAR. SEALS / STICKS TO ANYTHING. 24 HR DRY TIME. THICKER 36 HR. DIFFERENT MATERIAL COMBINATION'S. EVEN DIESEL PROOF. UV STABLE. I'M A FARMER IN OZ. USED IT TO SEAL CRACKS IN MY 50,000 GAL FARM TANK , CONCRETE. LOOKS LIKE I DID IT YESTERDAY. 32 YEARS AGO.
    I DON'T !!! USE ANYTHING ELSE. BUT ONCE IT'S ON , IT'S ON.
    OK CRACK ON M8.
    CHEERS OZE JOHN…

  11. OH, AND THE WATER IN MY BORE TANK IS SALTY AS WELL, NOT LIKE THE SEA, BUT I HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE 747 …
    CRACK ON OZE JOHN…

  12. Hi Mark. I agree with others….try and minimise the number of through Hull fittings, but also have a look at the Forespar marelon valves and fittings. Much shorter than True Design and easy to maintain. All the best. Steve G

  13. There is nothing wrong with thru hulls if made of good quality bronze and set in correctly. My Bavaria is 29 years old and got seven of them never causing any problems.

  14. Exciting stuff! So nice to see the boat choice is panning out. You're well on your way to living that dream… well in fact you're living it already!

  15. They are holes in the bottom of your boat. In this instance buy the best fittings money can buy. I would recommend Forespar from the US. They have composite right angle fittings

  16. You can't climb Everest by sprinting. Small baby steps. But just wait until you stand back and look the antifouled painted hull. That's when the baby steps have added up. That day is not too far away.

  17. I envy your drive and motivation to do this catamaran. I’ve sailed a little on a 72ft ketch many years ago, what good memories. Am loving watching the back catalogue. Your stronger than you think mark. Well done. I love the diy vids.

  18. Ha,the " fein" multitool…..evereybody who do renovation boatwork HAS to have at least 1.
Mine is im an shrine after 7 years off unbelieveble work he did, renovating my old nauticat.
    See " nauticat naughty ghost"
Ps he is still working fine, vhe fein!!!

  19. You've got to have a composting toilet (or other self contained system) on a wharram, because with a wet toilet you can't flush if you are dried out! (unless you flush with your drinking water!) Ability to park on the beach is one of the greatest strengths of the wharram approach. This didn't occur to me until just the other day because there are so many other reasons to have a composting toilet

  20. Gotta be proper bronze for thru hulls and sea-cocks. Very expensive, but it will last ages.
Those parts you had looked sound. Not sure about those ball valves…
No brass! Even the special dezincified whatever. It will get eaten by whatever bronze is around.

  21. People loan their expensive tools? I stopped doing that years ago. They always come back in horrible condition , and most of the time I had to go looking for them. Hundreds, if not thousands of dollars in tools, someone borrows, then uses it like they stole it.

  22. Bung up those through-hulls permanently – sailors over the past 10,000 years never had on-board toilets, and fired off bowel-volleys from the poop deck. Blokes can hang loose and widdle anywhere over the side of the leisure craft, and ladies can use a little bucket or Portapotti type device for both large and small deposits. This can be emptied straight over the side, and rinsed out with sea water. Downloaded matter going straight over the side provides the cod and mackerel with a nourishing treat, improving their flavour when caught for the dinner table.
Toilet paper presents to sea fish as a sort of tasty tea-bag, and the 'steeped' seawater around them makes a flavoursome drink particularly enjoyed by haddock.
It is said you can taste the diet of a particular fish by the flavour of the flesh, and that edible fish around India are excellent for curry lovers. Fish from around China taste of sweet and sour chicken, char-sui pork and bamboo shoots. Eskimos use their fishing hole as a toilet, and report that they often have to rinse out the stomachs of freshly caught salmon to prepare them for the table – YUMMY YUM!
