Când Guyot Environment s-a prăbușit în 11th Hour Racing în apropiere de Haga, în etapa finală a The Ocean Race, mulți oameni s-au întrebat – cum se pot ciocni două bărci cu echipaj de unii dintre cei mai buni marinari din lume în condiții moderate, cu vizibilitate bună? Exact despre asta vom vorbi în acest videoclip. Cea mai mare parte a cursei oceanice din întreaga lume, după cum sugerează și numele, are loc în ocean, departe de uscat și de alte bărci. Aceste bărci navighează cu viteze nebunești în condiții foarte dure, iar punțile sunt adesea complet inundate de apă de mare foarte rece. Din această cauză, unul dintre cele mai semnificative riscuri pentru acești marinari este să fie aruncați peste bord, deoarece probabilitatea de a putea recupera pe cineva în viață este redusă, mai ales noaptea în condiții dificile. Drept urmare, multe dintre aceste bărci au carlinge complet închise, unde echipajul poate opera barca din interior, ceea ce pentru cea mai mare parte a cursei este mult mai sigur și mai confortabil decât a fi pe punte. Cu toate acestea, deoarece o mare parte a cursei se desfășoară în ocean, organizatorii cursei au adăugat mai multe elemente de coastă la Ocean Race pentru a crește vizibilitatea și interesul spectatorilor pentru a-i menține fericiți pe sponsori. This kind of accident happens in open cockpit racing as well. They needed a bow man.
I agree with the guy who said it wasn’t the design but unsafe sailing. Both boats should have seen what was going to happen. But my main question is who is the guy screaming like a raving girly man? Wow … what a wuss !!😂
The captains involved should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Not a bad design, but a bad play from the rammers.
They are not in open ocean, and for these races, they should have a spotter outside.
I will just repeat what's already been said; Guyot did not have a proper lookout, period. It is not a single handed race. Nothing to do with the boat design.
Not sure screaming like a girlie is classed as avoiding a collision. There is no ‘right of way’.

You say the best sailors in the world, but sadly that just isn’t true. This accident was the most basic seamanship error.
They have a horn to wake others up. Still Goyot must pay for the repair and lost time somehow.
Not sure boat design is to blame here, both boat should look out for boats and avoid collision at any cost. Guyot has not seen the boat and is responsible but 11th hour did not do anything to avoid collision assuming the other boat was aware of the situation… then these boats are fast… but what a waste. Who has right of way is irrelevant to safety.
The footage shows 11th hour racing had a man on the bow. Had Guyot done the same then the blind spot issue would be solved.
Its crazy how this happens at the highest level of racing, but you'll never see kids doing this on 29ers
This is so typical of racing when design is the No1 priority and the full race options are not fully evaluated by the regulators but yet added in for financial gains such as sponsors Of course now they will modify the inshore race standards and prob cockpits but if someone had been killed here for all to see what then?? Yes, lives of all those involved would have been devastated. We think we are smart but humans are not as smart as they think they are.
Stupidety and sport has no limits i guess. Glad i dont meet this guys when i do go sailing in my yacht😂
Its also not hard to stick a bowman off the front, helps with calling wind and time to start as well as boats to leeward or ahead
if they handle with aircraft they would crash after 5 minutes of first flight

Reminds me of Antigua Week 1998 . I was Bow on a 65fter . I had agreed with the American Dr owner that there would be no shouting. First leg and he seemed to be holding a Board Meeting with his other Drs while helming. We were on Port and I ended up yelling 'George' pointed at my eyes then at the Stbt tacker about to sink us. Both tacked away with millimetre clearance,
Race 2 I just yelled 'INCOMING…STARBOARD TACKER.' Then 'Hold your course. You will go clear'. Which we did .
But dont expect professional sailors to muck it up like THIS tho !

This whole 'in port' series stems from the previous Volvo Ocean race series and is designed to increase public awareness of the race, which is a good idea, but has to be done safely.
The speeds with which these boats approach each other compounds the problem, especially since they can't see the crew of the other boat. A skipper or tactician must make early decisions and then adjust accordingly. It doesn't look like Guyot did any of that.
In port racing is difficult, even in open cockpit boats. I've seen so many races where one skipper didn't fully understanding the Racing Rules of Sailing and got himself, his boat, and other boats in trouble.
It's still the responsibility of BOTH parties to avoid a collision. Call a penalty and deal with it later.
The idiocy of these gajillion dollar boats not having a camera and screen and a proximity warning system of some kind is hard to understate. It's Ocean Gate levels of rich guys playing hubris.

Call me a Corinthinan if you will, but I detest shaping sailing to a sponsor's demands for spectator engagement.
Sailing is expensive. Put up or go home.
